Cellar Saloon

Beneath The Smith Flat House lies one of its most distinctive spaces — the Cellar Saloon and adjoining Powder Room. Surrounded by stone walls and heavy timber supports, the room rests atop the entrance to the Deep Blue Lead Mine, grounding every gathering in the earliest chapter of California’s Gold Rush.

The historic bar, in place for more than a century, anchors the space and contributes to its intimate scale and atmosphere. Designed to accommodate seated dining for up to 85 guests, the Cellar is ideally suited for rehearsal dinners, private celebrations, and evenings that benefit from a setting rich in texture and history.

Adjacent to the main room, the Powder Room preserves the original dynamite storage chamber — a rare architectural feature that remains visible today. Together, these spaces create an environment that is not replicated, but inherited.
